The Department of Livestock Services and International Trypanotolerance Centre (ITC) does research on livestock in collaboration with NARI. However, NARI has added senior staff in order to conduct full time research on livestock. ITC has three large research stations at Kerr Seringe, Keneba in the Lower River Region, and Sololo in the Central River Region.

Initially the Livestock Program research activities were centered on trypanosomiasis and the productivity of the Ndema cattle. The activities have been widened to include socio-economic and sustainable livestock production, small ruminants, and animal traction.
